Talula’s Pizza is located in a prime hip spot at 550 Cookman Ave, Asbury Park, NJ. Talulas has the potential and is quickly becoming a great go-to spot for Authentic pizza. All this starts with a casual hip atmosphere, competent staff and a 1st class attractive, gas fired “Wood-Stone” pizza oven.

I ordered 1/2 Margie (the basic house pie) and 1/2 fennel sausage/kale. (Hoping to try a white pie on my next trip.)  My first impression is how attractive this pizza looks but my first taste comes up a bit flat and slightly uneven. My 2nd bite in and I begin to taste the high quality of the fresh ingredients but still the tomato/tomato sauce comes off nondescript.

3rd time in and I’m finding the nicely cooked thin crust interesting with varied taste from tip to rim, at the crust edge (pizza-bone) I get a bread like doughy texture which may be due to a sourdough mix? (Ms. Skms would love this).

My toppings included a fennel sausage which was excellent with a deep flavor and a creamy kale as as good as any I’ve had. The taste and quality of these ingredients and watching others enjoy varied tastings makes me want to come back and try other items on the menu  served at Lunch, Brunch and Dinner.

Our own, Johnny C. had a late lunch this week at Talula’s and gave it high marks across the board. He enjoyed the New Yorker pie so much he almost ordered a 2nd . This certainly will push up the score a bit as Johnny C. knows his Pizza.

So, although my 1st trip to Talula’s  Pizza doesn’t meet all my expectations, the place, service and quality of ingredients will make me come back and invite friends to go, give it a try and report back. Talula’s falls into the next generation of authentic quality “Hipster Pizza” places that are a welcome breath of fresh air. I expect to return only to find good things getting better

Located in Red Bank, The Brothers (no original brother is still alive) has been around for what seems like forever at 188 W Front St, Red Bank, NJ 07701  www.brotherspizzawestlongbranch.com

A true family place with a true Jersey thin crust pie that gets people coming back for more year after year. Atmosphere will make you feel like you went back in time (ck the lamp in our Pizza Guys photo) but no one seems to notice as the groups of local family’s come to enjoy the consistent pizza and the usually friendly service.
